You can definitely ride a gravel bike around Lake Annecy!
- Distance: 40 km
- Level: accessible
- Terrain: bike path + back roads
The full loop around Lake Annecy is the classic route. On gravel, it takes on a whole new dimension: smoother, more dynamic, and more exploratory.
The bike path provides a safe and smooth route, but the real appeal of gravel biking is being able to veer off it occasionally to take smaller, less-traveled, and more authentic side roads. This allows you to avoid the most touristy areas during peak season and adds a bit of variety to the ride.
You'll pass by, among other things:
- Duingt and its castle, perched on the waterfront
- Menthon-Saint-Bernard, dominated by its medieval castle
- Annecy and its Old Town
- Talloires Bay, one of the most beautiful views of the lake
The route is mostly rolling, with about 300 meters of elevation gain concentrated on the Talloires climb. On a gravel bike, the bike’s light weight and efficiency allow you to maintain a good pace while staying comfortable.
This is the perfect route for: a 2- to 3-hour ride, exploring the lake without any technical challenges, riding fast without tackling a mountain pass, or a first-time gravel riding experience around Annecy
Accessible, scenic, and varied, it’s the perfect starting point for alpine gravel riding.
